Portrait of Maya

About

Maya · Berlin · restorative yoga teacher

I teach restorative yoga in a small studio in Neukölln. Before this I taught vinyasa, before that I worked as an interpreter, before that I was a person who held tension in her shoulders so reliably that two physiotherapists named me their most predictable patient.

I started restorenotes for the questions I get most often after class. Students email me on Sunday nights asking about a pose they couldn't settle into, or breathwork they tried at home that felt awkward, or what to do when the practice itself starts to feel like another thing to be good at. I am usually slow at email. The journal is where I write things down so I can point to them later.

What I write about

  • Restorative practice, which I now teach more than anything else
  • Breathwork as it actually fits into a real day
  • The bodywork I use myself — foam roller, tennis ball, the wall, the floor
  • Why slowing down is harder than it sounds, especially for people who came to yoga to "be productive about rest"

What I don't write about

I am not a doctor or a physiotherapist. I do not write about injuries, diagnoses, or any version of practice that should involve a real medical professional. If you are working through something serious, please find someone qualified. I will not be that person.

I also do not sell programs, certifications, or coaching. The journal is free and will stay free. There is a Monday email if you want it. That is the whole structure.

The studio

I teach two restorative classes a week, in person, in Neukölln. I do not advertise them online and I am not going to put a booking link here. If you live nearby and a class sounds useful, write to me and I will tell you when the next one is.

Writing to me

The fastest way is [email protected]. I reply on Sunday afternoons, usually. I read everything. I am especially fond of long emails about whether some specific thing in the practice is normal — those are almost always the ones that turn into posts.
